Nothing decided between Sankt Pölten and Rosengård yet since the first leg finished with a 2-2 draw after Austrian were already 0-2 in the lead.
The weather in Malmö was not exactly inviting, with fog and temperatures around freezing point. St. Pölten, the only remaining team in the competition that came through qualifiers, debuted in UEFA Women’s Champions League knockout stages, while Rosengård are hoping to be the first Swedish quarter-finalists since 2017/18. Mateja Zver scored the opening goal after a long ball from goalkeeper Kresche. The Austrian Kresche performed some important saves, especially deflecting a dangerous shot from Jelena Čanković.
Austrian champions doubled the lead, again through Mateja Zver. Slovenian captain took a ball in the middle, dribbled past 3 opponents and scored her second goal with a precise shot. After that, the Swedes woke up and showed their class. Austrian defence forgot on Sanne Troelsgaard who scored after a cross from Čanković and returned the Swedes in the game. Rosengård were looking for the equalizer and finally got it in injury time. The Austrians were unable to clear after the corner and Swedish veteran Caroline Seger managed to score for a 2-2 draw.
We are looking forward to exciting game in Sankt Pölten next Wednesday, when Austrians will be in slight advantage thanks to away goals.
