Women’s Champions League group stage draw took place today. 16 teams were placed into four groups where they will face each other home and away.

After the Women’s Champions League reform, the first ever group stage draw took place today in Nyon and provided us with some exciting match ups:

Group A
Chelsea (ENG)
Wolfsburg (GER)
Juventus (ITA)
Servette (SUI)

Arguably, the strongest group out of four. English and Italian champions, with German runner-up, will probably leave no chance of success to Servette. Chelsea and Wolfsburg are facing each other for the fifth time in the last seven seasons. Most recently, the Blues knocked Germans out in the last season quarter-finals.

Group B
Paris Saint-Germain (FRA)
Breidablik (ISL)
Real Madrid (ESP)
WFC Kharkiv (UKR)

Three debutants will face Paris SG, who have high ambitions for this season after playing in the semi-final in the last one. Real Madrid knocked out Manchester City in the play-off to secure their debut in the prestigious competition.

Group C
Barcelona (ESP)
Arsenal (ENG)
Hoffenheim (GER)
HB Køge (DEN)

The holders lost twice against Arsenal in their debut season in 2012/13. But the things change since then, and it is hard to believe that Blaugrana could miss the knockout stage in this group. Germans and Danes are debuting on the European stage.

Group D
Bayern München (GER)
Lyon (FRA)
Häcken (SWE)
Benfica (POR)

We can expect fireworks in the battle for the first place in the group. Lyon’s reign ended in the last season, and for sure they will be looking to return to the European throne. The same goes for Bavarians, who were knocked out in the semi-final in the last season.
