FC Girondins de Bordeaux have reached an agreement with Malia Berkely. The 22-year-old American international defender will transfer to France from FSU (Florida State University). She will sign an 18-month contract (June 2022) with an option of an additional season.
The 22-year-old has 84 appearances and 4 goals in the NCAA in last five years with FSU. When she was just 15, the American defender won the Ohio State Championship (3rd Division). With the Rams, her university team, later she repeated the title. Berkely was also named ACC Defensive Player of the Year for two consecutive years (2019, 2020) as the first player ever.
With signing of Berkley, Bordeaux is already preparing for the departure of Elena Linari who has been linked with a transfer to AS Roma. Official confirmation of Linari’s transfer should follow in the following days.
