Sonia Bompastor extends with Olympique Lyon and will sit on the French champions’ bench for two more years, until June 2025.
The 42-year-old took over Lyon in 2021 after Jean-Luc Vasseur dismissal. Prior to that, former club’s captain, who became the first woman to win the Women’s Champions League as a player and coach, she worked in Lyon’s youth academy for eight years. Former midfielder, who played over 150 matches for the French national team, is on the good path to secure another D1 Arkema title. At the same time, the club also announced renewal of her assistant, Camille Abily.
“We are happy. As we said, Lyon is our club. There is still a page in history to be written so we are happy to stay for an additional two years,” said the duo.
