Bayern extend with five key players. Lina Magull, Klara Bühl, Giulia Gwinn, Laura Benkarth and Carolin Simon have all signed new deals.

Bayern’s captain, Lina Magull, arrived to Munich in 2018 from SC Freiburg. Previously, she also played for Gütersloh and Wolfsburg. The 27-year-old took the captain’s armband last year and is slowly approaching her 100th appearance for Bayern. The German international midfielder extended the contract until June 2024.

Klara Bühl is one of the biggest talents in the German football. As Lina Magull, also the 21-year-old forward arrived to Bavaria from SC Freiburg, where she debuted on the senior level. In almost 40 appearances, she scored 15 goals. The new contract will expiry in June 2025.

Giulia Gwinn also committed to Bayern until June 2025. Another former Freiburg player joined Bayern in 2019 and has since made over 30 appearances. The 22-year-old midfielder suffered a cruciate ligament injury in the last year and spent a long time in the rehab. She returned to the active football in the current season.

After a long spell at SC Freiburg, also Laura Benkarth opted for a switch to Bayern, where she arrived to together with Lina Magull. The 29-year-old has been number one choice between the post in the last few seasons. Last week, Benkarth had to undergo cruciate ligament surgery and will be sidelined for a couple of months. She signed a contract until June 2024.

Carolin Simon returned to Germany in 2019 after a spell with Olympique Lyon. An experienced German defender also played for Wolfsburg, Hamburger, Bayer Leverkusen and SC Freiburg in the Frauen Bundesliga. In Bavaria, Simon made over 60 appearances and is considered as one of the key players. She extended her contract for one more year, until June 2023.

“A lot is possible with this team. We still have a lot of young players who are in a very important phase of their development. The team has a lot of potential and I am very happy that we have managed to bind these five players to the club and I am looking forward to celebrating many more successes with this team,” said Bianca Rech, FC Bayern Women’s sporting director.
