The Swedish international Fridolina Rolfö and Norwegian international Ingrid Engen will not renew their contracts with Vfl Wolfsburg.
“We have tried to keep both players, but both have rejected our offers with the indication that they want to take on a new challenge in the new season,” said Wolfsburg sporting director Ralf Kellermann.
“I have rejected the offer, it is nothing more than that. I don’t want to go into details. Now I need to think about my future because I have not decided anything yet. If I have offers? Check that with my agent. I’m open, we’ll see what happens,” 27-year-old Rolfö, that joined Wolfsburg from FC Bayern in summer of 2019, added.
“Ingrid Engen still has a lot of football in front of her. We had hoped that she would stay with us longer,” Kellermann said. The defensive midfielder joined VfL from Norwegian club Lilliström SK Kvinner and quickly earned a regular spot in Wolfsburg.
The contracts of Anna Blässer, Lara Dickenmann, Zsanett Jakabfi, Lena Goeßling and Friederike Abt are also expiring at the end of the season. “We will clear all the doubts in the next few weeks and see where we are headed.” But Ralf Kellermann remains optimistic that the two departures can be adequately replaced: “We will also have a competitive team next season. VfL Wolfsburg has a great appeal. I also don’t see any danger of players leaving us unscheduled.”
