Friederike Abt moves to Bayer Leverkusen from Wolfsburg in the summer, signing a two-year contract with “Werkself”.
The 26-year-old goalkeeper has already 65 Bundesliga games on her tally. Abt started her career in Herforder SV and later moved to Hoffenheim. In 2019, she joined Wolfsburg as a substitute for Almuth Schult. But despite Schult maternity leave and injury break, Abt didn’t get a chance as a starter as Katarzyna Kiedrzynek is Stephan Lerch’s first choice. Since she got only 5 Frauen Bundesliga appearances, 6 in the DFB Cup and 4 in Champions League, she decided to move to Leverkusen looking for more play time.
“I am very much looking forward to the new sporting and personal challenge at Bayer 04 Leverkusen for the upcoming season. The strong development of the team as well as the talks with those responsible have convinced me. I want to contribute with my experience and help achieve the goals,” Abt said.
