Head coach Markus Högner extends with SGS Essen

Head coach Markus Högner extends with SGS Essen and will stay in charge for at least three more years.

The 54-year-old started his coaching career in 2000, when he was coaching the German national team in beach football. After that, he worked in youth categories of different clubs before making a switch to the women’s football in 2010, when he started his first spell with SGS Essen. After six years, Högner became Steffi Jones’ assistant in the Women’s German National team. He re-joined Essen in 2019, after a brief spell as a coach of Wolfsburg Women’s team. Along with Hőgner, also the rest of his coaching staff extended their contracts.

“Markus knows the club like no other. With him, SGS has not only been successful as a club. I would like to remind you of the cup final in 2020. The players have also been able to develop extremely positively under him and his coaching team,” said Essen’s director, Florian Zeutschler.
