Saki Kumagai joins FC Bayern

Saki Kumagai joins FC Bayern München from Olympique Lyon. She will sign a two-year contract with Bavarians.

The 30-year-old started her professional football career with the Japanese side, Red Diamonds. She gained first experience in European football in FFC Frankfurt’s shirt. In 2013, she moved to Lyon, where she evolved into one of the best midfielders in the world. Japanese national team captain has won Women’s Champions League five times in a row with Lyon and seven French championships. With her national team, she became world champion in 2011, vice world champion in 2015 and Asian champion in 2018.

“I am very happy and very much looking forward to playing for FC Bayern Munich. I was looking for a new challenge and when we played Bayern in the Champions League quarter-finals last year, I noticed how unified Bayern are and that they are a very good team. That sparked my interest in the club. I want to win the Champions League with Bayern Munich!” Kumagai added at the end.
