Alexia Putellas wins Ballon d’Or for the first time in her career.

Ballon d’Or returned after one year absence due to Covid-19. Among 20 shortlisted players, Alexia Putellas has been chosen as the winner of the most prestigious individual award in the football’s world. The 27-year-old Barcelona’s captain led Blaugrana to the Women’s Champions League title, where she also scored in the big final. Alexia played a big part in Barcelona’s historic Liga Iberdrola season, when they scored a record of 167 goals. She has already won UEFA Best player of the year award.

“I am a bit emotional. This is a very special moment for me. And it is also very special to have my friends here, with whom we went through very nice moments together. That makes me very happy,” said Alexia after receiving the award.

Another Barcelona player, Jennifer Hermoso, finished 2nd, while Chelsea’s Sam Kerr came in 3rd.
