David Aznar takes over Athletic Club

David Aznar takes over Athletic Club and will lead the Basque country club in the next season.

The 43-year-old coach mostly worked in men’s football before taking on CD Tacon project in 2018, which later converted into Real Madrid women’s team. Aznar led Las Blancas to second place finish in their first season but was sacked in November 2021 after a poor start into the season. He will replace Iraia Iturregi as the head coach, after she left the club to join Baskonia.

“I am very proud to represent a unique institution. It is a club that believes in women’s football and wants to continue growing. I share the identity and philosophy and I see myself represented in it,” said Aznar.
