Irene Paredes moves to FC Barcelona from Paris Saint-Germain. The former Parisians’ captain signed a two-year contract.
The 30-year-old played in Paris since 2016 and also became the club’s captain. The experienced centre-back debuted in Liga Iberdrola at age 17 in Real Sociedad’s shirt. In Spain, she also played for Athletic Bilbao before moving to France. In the last season, she won Division 1 Feminine for the first time with PSG. One of the world’s best defenders has also more than 70 caps for the Spanish national team.
“I’m delighted to be here, to sign for a club that has made history. I’m here to contribute. I hope the team goes further. It’s a totally different team to the one I played against with Athletic, just over five years ago. Everyone can see how they have grown as a club and as individuals,” said Paredes.
Paredes is another high-profile Barcelona signing, after Ingrid Engen and Fridolina Rölfo.
