Lluis Cortes resigns as Barcelona coach

Lluis Cortes resigns as Barcelona coach after the most successful season in the club history. Barcelona won Liga Iberdrola, Women’s Champions League and Copa de la Reina.

The 34-year-old, who extended the contract with Blaugrana just a over a month ago, took over in 2019 when he replaced Fran Sanchez. Under his guidance, Barça won the historic triple. Apart from that, they have reached another final of Champions League, won Liga Iberdrola League, Spanish cup and Spanish Super Cup. Blaugrana has also improved the record for goals scored in a season.

“Right now I feel I have very little energy to continue leading this team. The best team in the world needs a coach who is capable of pulling, infecting and transmitting strength to the group, and right now I feel I can’t. It’s been an exhausting year of that demanded a lot of energy. What this group needs to keep winning and competing are changes, and I’m very clear that one of them is for me to step aside and put the club and the team first,” said Lluis Cortes.
