Mapi Leon renews with Barcelona and will stay in the Catalan capital for at least two more years, until June 2024.
The 26-year-old joined Barcelona in 2017 from their league rivals, Atlético Madrid. Since then, the Spanish defender played over 100 matches and scored six goals for Blaugrana. Leon, who previously also played for Zaragoza and Espanyol, is considered to be the first paid transfer in the Spanish women’s football. Blaugrana paid €50,000 to Atlético Madrid in 2017. On the international stage, one of the best centre-backs in the world made 47 appearances for La Furia Roja.
“I am very happy to continue for at least two more years. I want to thank the Culés for the support and affection I receive. It was hard to achieve what we have achieved and even more trying to repeat it. We have to appreciate it and keep working to do it again”.
