José Luis Sánchez Vera is appointed as a new head coach of Atletico de Madrid Femenino. 37-year-old Spanish coach, who was already a Spanish champion with Atletico Madrid in 2018/19 season, will replace Dani Gonzalez, who was in charge since January 2020.
Vera, who returns to Madrid after his short spell as an assistant coach at Victoria Guimaraes, was very successful in his first term at Rojo blancos bench. He achieved 28 wins and just two losses in Liga Iberdrola which is still an all-time record. Under his leadership, Atletico Madrid qualified for the round of 16 in Champions league for the second time in club history.
“We have many challenges and goals to work towards together”
“I cannot express what it means to work for this club and this team again. We have many challenges and goals to work towards together and I will, as always, put all my effort, dedication and passion into achieving them. I look forward to seeing all of the players soon,” Vera said after signing the contract.
On the other hand Dani Gonzalez will still continue to be linked to the club. Last year he managed to qualify again for the UEFA Women’s Champions League but this season, injuries played a big part in worse performance of Madrid’s team.
