Brooke Chaplen hangs up her boots following a lengthy spell on the sidelines after a bone tumor was found in her leg.
The 33-year-old is currently Reading player, whom she joined in 2017 from Sunderland. Previously playing also for Portsmouth, Chelsea and Everton, the English midfielder has over 200 matches on the highest level of the English women’s football. During her time with Royals, she made 94 appearances and scored 26 goals. At the end of January, a scan revealed a tumor on her leg, that was removed recently. But during the procedure a couple of knee ligaments weren’t able to be saved and following medical advice, Chaplen decided to retire.
“I’ve been here a long time now and I feel part of the furniture – I have some great memories. From scoring my first goal against Liverpool to battling the likes of Manchester United for the top three spot. I feel like my ability as a player has been massively developed here and that’s huge credit to Kelly and all the coaching staff at Reading for all the time and resource they invested in me,” said Chaplen.
