Coaching trio leave Aston Villa

Marcus Bignot, Gemma Davies and Jenny Sugarman leave Aston Villa after completion of the Women’s Super League season.

Bignot, who took over as interim manager from Gemma Davies, led Aston Villa to the 10th place finish in the Women’s Super League and managed to avoid relegation. Gemma Davies joined Villa in 2018 and brought the team to the WSL from Championship in the previous season. Jenny Sugarman joined the club year later and acted as her assistant.

“The remit was to stay up, and we’ve done that. But it’s the manner in which we did it. To go five games unbeaten at the end of the season is testament to our players and our staff,” said Bignot.
