Maren Mjelde extends Chelsea stay

Maren Mjelde has signed a contract extension with Chelsea Women until June 2022, with the club having an option for a further 12 months.

“I’m honoured and happy that I got offered a new contract and this is where I want to be.”

– Maren Mjelde

Norwegian defender joined Chelsea in January 2017 and has been a key member of Emma Hayes’ squad. During her time with the Blues, she won two Super League titles, FA Cup and Conti Cup.

She arrived to London from Norwegian club Availdsnes. In last 4 years with Chelsea, captain of Norwegian national team, reached a semi-final of Champions League.

“I have been here now for four years and it’s been four great years. The team have been developing every year and it’s the best place to be. When I came to Chelsea in 2017, it was a really good team. I felt it was some levels up from the club I played for before. You can see there has been a lot of changes. In my first season, we got to the semi-finals of the Champions League but we were not close at all. The year after, against Lyon, we were pretty close to reaching the final. That’s the direction we want to go,” Mjelde explained when she felt that the club is heading into right direction.
