Marisa Ewers hangs up her boots

Aston Villa’s Marisa Ewers hangs up her boots and will move into an off-field role with the Women’s team for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.

The 32-year-old arrived to Aston Villa in 2019 from their city rivals Birmingham City. Since then, the German midfielder made 51 appearances and scored three goals. Before moving to England, Villa’s captain played in her native Germany for Hamburger SV and Bayer Leverkusen, and played almost 200 matches in Frauen Bundesliga.

“Now it’s time for my next chapter. I have new dreams and aspirations, and I am ready for new challenges! For all the memories, friendships and opportunities to grow, I am enormously grateful. Being Club Captain at Aston Villa was an honour and an achievement I am proud of,” wrote Marisa Ewers.
